National Institute of Design, Kurukshetra ,Haryana, was established on November 15, 2016 as an autonomous institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, to emerge as a global leader in Design Education and Research.  The institute functions as an autonomous body under  Deptt. Of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of commerce and Industry of the Government of India. NIFT was set up in Delhi in year 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles ,Government Of India.It is one of the premiere institutes for fashion designing in India.At the time of its establishment it had only one program which was Fashion Design but in the later years various degree programs were added in the curriculum.It also has faculty and curriculum support from Fashion Institute of Technology ,Manhattan,New York. It has 16 functioning campuses all around India. Currently NIFT has 16 centers all around India and 2 centeres are proposed and under development.
